Remembering “Mighty” Mike Quinn

Remembering “Mighty” Mike Quinn

People still ask me if I remember doing that now classic interview with The Mighty Quinn back in June 2015. To this day, people ask me if I’m surprised the video has surpassed 80,000 views or that it’s considered one of the most in depth interviews Mike ever did. No, how could I forget it? I won’t forget about how many missed opportunities there were and how hard it was to track Mike down. That alone took weeks, if not months. When we finally did the interview, it wasn’t at a Gold’s Gym or a packed bodybuilding show. We did the video at his parent’s house. I got to meet Mike’s dad (a tanned, shirtless & shredded guy with the body of a boxer). I was able to meet his mom. And we did the interview in the patio. Mama Quinn brought us a fan, cool drinks, and was so hospitable even though it was HOT AF. His parents were super genuine people, as was Mike, and let me tell you, they were as MASSACHUSETTS as you could get.

Mike was always unfiltered.

Something else that comes up often is when people ask me if there was more footage? If anything got left out? Even at forty-two minutes of runtime, a lot of people wonder if there was still more. YES! THERE WAS A TON MORE, but I didn’t want to get sued. And even with what I edited and published, I was still slightly concerned. Mike had A LOT to say about a lot of people, most especially Gary Strydom, Phil Hill, Chris Paciello, and a few others. The guy had zero filter and employed zero censorship. He wasn’t out to tear anyone down, but you could tell he didn’t give a flying fuck if he offended anyone in the process. He was all about the truth, and sometimes people just can’t handle that. They assume that if enough time passes, the truth can be revised so as to make everyone come out looking good. THAT WAS NOT HOW MIKE LIVED.

Mike’s Legacy Lives On!

The Mighty Quinn took us for the whole journey, from training with his dad in BROCKTON, MA – THE CITY OF CHAMPIONS – all the way to the AAU, the NPC, the IFBB and the WBF. Mike had a lot to say, including the fact that when the magazines dubbed him “THE BAD BOY OF BODYBUILDING,” he couldn’t avoid drama as he toured the country, and the world. That title got him a lot of guest posing opportunities, sponsorships, and even landed him a top spot with the WBF, but it also got him into A LOT of trouble with pretty much any wannabe-tough guy looking to make a name for themselves. Everyone wanted to see how far they could get with Mike, and as a few found out, it didn’t take much for The Mighty Quinn to lose his temper and kick ass!!

The Bad Boy of Bodybuilding

Although Mike never formally retired, he trained competitors and was visible at many of the contests in South Florida. Not too long after this interview, Mike started doing more interviews with the major bodybuilding outlets. I’m not saying it was because of our video, but 80,000 views is 80,000 views. And it’s more than just the views, it’s 576 likes and over 300 comments, not to mention all the social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and even Tiktok) it was shared on. I’m extremely proud of this interview and hope you’ll check it out. In a very real way, Mike was the last of the Mohicans. Real bodybuilding fans miss him and will always celebrate his legacy.

RIP, MIGHTY MIKE QUINN!! LOVE YOU, BROTHER!!
