When Shawn Ray speaks, the world of bodybuilding and fitness listens. It’s been this way from the very beginning. To this day, Ray commands massive fan support. He gets mobbed by screaming fans wherever he goes. The man is a living legend. So of course, when word got out that he advised a young champion against competing at the 2026 Olympia, it sent shockwaves throughout the world of fitness. The champion in question is none of than Quinton “Beastwood” Eriya, who just won the 2026 Toronto Supershow. It’s considered the most prestigious pro contest in Canada. Not only did Quinton win and collect that generous check for $10,000, but he’s gone viral as the underdog who battled his way to the winner’s circle. Quinton is going to the Olympia!
But there’s that Shawn Ray quote making the rounds which advises Eriya from competing at the O. Was it taken out of context? Did he say those words at all? And if so, why say that so soon after his win? I’m not saying the advise isn’t well-intentioned, but it caused outrage.
I, for one, don’t think Shawn was trying to be negative, but he had to know have known that that kind of statement was going to cause blowback. Even Fouad Abiad, chimed in. He applauded Ray for speaking up; however, what does Fouad do? He’s a talk show host. And talk show hosts rattle feathers. Even if Shawn had good intentions, the consensus among fans will be that he did it for hits and to troll the guy. I’m just saying. People are far more skeptical than they are naive. At least that’s how’d I describe the bodybuilding world.
Everyone has the right to their opinion. And as journalists we express ourselves. It’s what we do. It’s why people read our articles and watch our videos. I get it. But that doesn’t mean we have to agree with it – or even like it. I don’t happen to agree with Shawn – on any level when it comes to Quinton not doing the Olympia, but I applaud him for sharing his opinion.
What say you?
