How many times are we going to see this nonsensical argument make the rounds in the sport of bodybuilding? I’ve seen it made at least a dozen times in the nearly twenty years I’ve been covering physique-based sports and it never gets any more ridiculous. I’ve seen athletes say that only jacked coaches should coach. I’ve heard it from consumers stating that only jacked company owners should take nutritional products to market. And now, I’m hearing it from one of the most celebrated contest prep gurus addressing the qualifications of a member of the media. I’m really surprised to see Chris “The Technician” Aceto falling into this category.
It’s ironic because Chris is also a member of the media and should know better. But perhaps he can’t wear two hats at the same time. Nonetheless, the damage has been done. According to The Technician, Nick Miller doesn’t have the eye. Isn’t that interesting? It’s ludicrous if I’m being totally frank, but it’s also quite thought provoking. So this kid from Ohio has been doing what for the last 10+ years? He earned the respect of millions, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, but he doesn’t have the eye?
C’mon Chris, you’re better than that. Quit acting the fool. – Christian Duque
The whole idea of qualifications is bunk. As I said on my video commentary (below), I cite the great Ernie Johnson, host of Inside The NBA. ITNBA has been on the air for over 28 years and has become the most-watched show insofar as NBA coverage. The program has one host. And that host is Ernie Johnson. Ernie never played pro hoops, college hoops, and may not have even played high school basketball. I believe his only sporting credentials rest in high school baseball. So, based on Chris Aceto’s logic, Ernie Johnson doesn’t have the eye for basketball because he never played in the NBA or the NCAA? See how stupid that sounds? And try telling the co-hosts of Inside The NBA in SHAQ, Kenny Smith, or Charles Barkley that Ernie doesn’t have the eye. Try telling special co-host Kevin Garnett that.
Perhaps Chris didn’t like Miller’s commentary as it related to one of his athletes or to a competitor he thought got a raw deal? Or maybe he took issue with his past reporting? If that’s the case, then that would be a stronger position for the New England based coach to rest his case on. But to question the most popular YouTuber in the fitness industry for not having “the eye,” that just makes Aceto seem like an out-of-touch, grumpy old man.
What say you?
